LEXINGTON, N.C. — The Lexington Fire Department announced their new fire chief on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Michael R. Tofano was selected a few months after former Chief Paul Jarrett retired from the role.
Tofano is a Lexington native, having graduated from Noth Davidson High School in 1993. He moved from North Carolina to Altoona, PA to start his firefighting career in 1999.
He held the ranks of Firefighter, Driver, Captain, Fire Inspector and Deputy Chief of Altoona Fire Department.
Tafano moved back to North Carolina in June 2021 where he was taken on as the Deputy Chief of the Lexington Fire Department.
In 2019, he received an Executive Fire Officer certification with the National Fire Academy. He also has a master's degree in Fire Administration from Liberty University.
“It is an honor to accept the position of Fire Chief for the City of Lexington. I look forward to leading the Lexington Fire Department with integrity and dedication” said Tofano. “I am committed to upholding the trust of our community, ensuring the safety of Lexington’s citizens, and supporting the brave men and women of the Lexington Fire Department who put their lives on the line each day. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do.”
