HIGH POINT, N.C. — The city of High Point experienced two major power outages in a matter of 24 hours.

The first stemmed from a storm Monday night.

Then, more homes and businesses were left in the dark again on Tuesday afternoon.

City officials don't know what caused the Tuesday outage.

On Monday night, High Point Electric said lightning hit a sub-station, causing the transmission outage.

High Point Electric Utilities Director Tyler Berrier said it was a different situation on Tuesday.

Crews are working to pinpoint the cause of the second large outage.

Five substations went out across the area.

Berrier said the challenge is that they have to work with Duke Energy to diagnose the issue because it deals with a connecting line.

One High Point woman said the outage left her unable to work.

"I was out of power for maybe an hour and 45 minutes and I lost an hour and 45 minutes worth of work time, so that some time I can't get back, especially those that we don't have vacation time or sick time, we can't even use that, so that's time that I've lost at my job," Nichol Ivory said.

The city of High Point said as of late Tuesday afternoon, crews have restored all outages.

We are experiencing another large power outage. We are aware of the situation and crews are working to restore power as soon as possible.
