LAKE LURE, N.C. — Lake Lure in Rutherford County is still under a curfew from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. following the events of Helene.
The town posted an update on its Facebook page last night and said firefighters and town staff have gone door to door making rescues in the most impacted areas. Many of the rescues in Lake Lure are by foot and helicopter where vehicles are not able to go.
Lake Lure has received additional help from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Cell service and internet access in the town have improved. The town remains under a boil advisory and has a no-flush order. All town wells are operable with the expectation of two and staff are working to repair these wells.
The Lake Lure Dam remains stable, but lake levels may need to be adjusted tomorrow.
The town said officials have requested no one come to Lake Lure unless they live there and there will be checkpoints requiring verification to minimize traffic going to the the town center for residents only.
Lake Lure provided a traffic update for the following roads and highways:
- 64/74 to Rutherfordton became impassable again today at Rock Springs, beyond Bills Creek Road.
- Bill’s Creek Road is accessible to Cove Road through to Sugar Hill Road which leads to I-40.
- Highway 9 is open though to McQuinn’s. You can take Big Level Road to 74 to 108 and then to I-26.
