GREENSBORO, N.C. — No doubt, you've noticed an explosion of bugs outside.
Experts say all this hot weather is driving them out of their homes in search of a better place to live that includes ticks (which are actually arachnids, not insects)!
McNeely Pest Control says you'll need to keep an eye out for them. If you're unsure if it's a tick, or something else look out for the number of legs. Ticks have eight legs. Yes, eight legs!
"Ticks will climb out on the edge of limb and do what they call questing," said Frank Fowler, the Vice President of McNeely, and head biologist there, "They'll reach out and if an animal or a person comes by they'll snag your clothes and hitch a ride. They're there to suck your blood and they will transmit disease."
There are several things you can do to keep ticks away: wear good insect repellent; try and wear long sleeves, especially if you go walking or hiking in the woods; and do a thorough check over when you get home.
If you notice a tick bite, keep an eye on it and see a doctor if it worsens.
