JFK Sailors Disciplined for Fatal Accident

MAYPORT, FL -- The Navy has disciplined six sailors on board the USS John F. Kennedy for an incident in April that killed one sailor and sent another to the hospital.

Kennedy for an incident in April that killed one sailor and sent another to the hospital.Three crewmembers were awarded non-judicial punishment, which is punitive, and the three others received non-punitive actions, according to JFK Public Affairs Officer Lt. Leslie Hull-Ryde.Punitive actions are filed in the official record.Non-punitive actions are dealt with corrective counseling and are not filed in the official record according to Lt. Hull-Ryde.The accident happened April 6 in a sewage pump room.Two sailors were exposed to hydrogen sulfide gas.Hull Technician Apprentice Daxion Brown, 22, of Titusville, died at Shands Jacksonville.Fireman Brian Carr, of Fairland, Okla., was critically injured.Lt. Hull-Ryde says the investigation into the accident is complete and is in the process of being reviewed.
