LEXINGTON, NC -- Davidson County Deputies are searching for a man they say assaulted a detention officer and escaped from the Davidson County Detention Center in Lexington Saturday.
The suspect is 23-year-old Benjamin Lee Small. Deputies say Small assaulted a female detention officer before escaping the jail premises. Davidson County deputies and other agencies are currently searching for him.

The sheriff's office obtained warrants against Small for assault inflicting physical injury to a detention officer, escape from a local jail and common law robbery.
The female detention officer received serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The sheriff's office says her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time.

Neighbors in the area say on Saturday night, they heard chaos break out around 11:30 p.m., as law enforcement searched the area with cars and dogs. Minnie Lynch saw the scene from her porch.
""They were all through there," she pointed out, "The cars were coming down that way, it was all over by those apartments. They were everywhere, I mean just everywhere last night."
Anyone who sees Small or knows any information about his whereabouts should call 911 immediately.
