'I Was Screaming Then I Started Crying' 5-Year-Old in a Cast After Hit-and-Run in Greensboro Walmart Parking Lot

A 5-year-old Greensboro boy was hit on the passengers side door, fell down, and then his left leg was run over.

GREENSBORO, North Carolina — A mother says her son was screaming at the top of his lungs after he was hit by a car in a Walmart parking lot in Greensboro.

WFMY News 2 spoke to to the mother of the boy who was hit.

"He yelled, he screamed, he was crying," Charlita Hamilton said.

The hit-and-run happened at the Walmart on 2107 Pyramids Village on April 9 according to Greensboro Police.

"It rolled over me," 5-year-old K'Marion said. "I was screaming then I started crying."

Officers say the driver was going 15 miles per hour when K'Marion was hit. That is the authorized speed limit.

But Hamilton said that's much too fast for a parking lot that's usually packed.

"They were driving too fast for a parking lot," Hamilton said. "They should’ve slowed down anyway and taken precautions about surrounding areas."

Charlita Hamilton says she does not fault the driver for hitting K'Marion because he ran out in front of the car. But she did say the driver was at fault for not stopping.

"He was going to hit him regardless he didn’t have a chance," Hamilton said. "It wasn’t {the driver's} fault but, he should’ve stopped."

Hamilton said there's no way the driver couldn't have known he hit her son.

"Even if he were to glance over you still would've seen it out your peripheral view, I don’t care," Hamilton said. "You felt it, you seen it and I just want them to acknowledge what they did, knowing that they hit a child."

Hamilton said her son hit the passengers side door, fell down, and then his left leg was run over. She said the driver also narrowly missed her 3-year-old.

"This is a splint basically to keep it protected so it won't move, it was really, really swollen," Hamilton said. "There is a big 'ole scratch like a circle scratch and blood."

Aunt Jackie Hamilton was there when the hit-and-run happened.

"They took off his shoe and when they cut his pants up you could see his foot looking like a balloon and it was all scraped up and stuff."

Her son is now in a temporary cast. Hamilton said doctors at Moses Cone have to wait for the swelling to go down in order to determine if there are any broken bones. He has an X-ray scheduled for Monday.

Charlita said K'Marion is now traumatized and always talks about how afraid he is of 'the blue car.'

"He’s terrified of the blue car – any blue car he sees he’ll tell you the blue car hit him."

Greensboro Police say the driver was in a blue Dodge Avenger. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers: 336-373-1000.
