GREENSBORO, N.C. — A crash involving a Winston-Salem police officer on I-840 East, near North Elm Street, resulted in minor injuries on Friday evening, according to the State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 7:55 p.m. when Mark Daniel Mooney, 50, a Winston-Salem police patrol car, crashed into a car driven by Rah’shia Pauline Jones, 23.

Jones had been involved in a rear-end crash with another vehicle, leaving her car disabled in the roadway. Mooney, attempting to avoid the crash, struck Jones's vehicle, troopers said.

Mooney suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital for his injuries.

Jones and a child in her vehicle also sustained minor injuries but did not require treatment.

Troopers said no charges were issued as a result of the crash.

Two lanes of I-840 were closed for approximately one hour during the investigation, according to troopers.
