GREENSBORO, N.C. (WFMY)-- The impact of Hurricane Florence is prompting schools, including colleges and universities to cancel events and classes.
We'll update as schools release information.
SCHOOLS:
- Rockingham County Schools: Closing 2 hours early on Thursday, and will be closed completely on Friday. On Friday, all schools will operate on a Plan 3, this means students and staff do not report and childcare is closed.
- Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools: All schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. All activities at the school are canceled from Thursday to Sunday.
- Davidson County Schools: Davidson County Schools are closed Friday for students and staff. All afterschool activities for Thursday and Friday are canceled. Weather will be monitored before any other schedule changes and cancellations are made.
- Alamance-Burlington Schools: ABSS will be closed Friday, Sept.14 for students and staff. All Friday varsity football games have been moved to Wednesday evening. Weather will be monitored before any other schedule changes and cancellations are made. ABSS has also canceled all after school and evening activities for Thursday, Sept. 13; with the exception of after-school daycare programs that will operate on their regular schedules Thursday.
- Guilford County Schools: Guilford County Schools are closed on Friday, Sept. 14. On Thursday, Sept. 13, Guilford County Schools will close two hours early in anticipation of inclement weather related to Hurricane Florence. ACES and all after-school activities have been canceled for Thursday and Friday, including but not limited to all athletic contests and practices, field trips, performances, meetings and ACES after-school care.
- Montgomery County Schools: Thursday, September 13, Montgomery County Schools will close at 11 a.m. and remain closed on Friday. School officials said further information will be forthcoming about certain schools being used as shelters from Montgomery County Emergency Management.
- Stokes County Schools: Stokes County Schools will be closing 3 hours early on Friday, Sept. 14. All after school and evening events on Friday and Saturday have been canceled or rescheduled. Officials said they will continue to monitor the weather and post updates on their Facebook page.
- Randolph County Schools: All schools in the Randolph County School System will release two hours early on Thursday and will be closed Friday, September 14.
- Surry County Schools: All Friday and weekend events are canceled, including afterschool childcare. The East Surry vs. West Stokes football game was played Wednesday night. North Surry vs. Mount Airy will play Thursday night. The Eighth Annual Academic Golf Classis has been pushed until Sept. 26.
- Thomasville City Schools: Students will be on an early dismissal schedule Thursday, with K-5 students at Liberty Drive and Thomasville Primary dismissing at 12 p.m. and 6-12 students at Thomasville Middle, Thomasville High and Bulldog Academy dismissing at 1 p.m. All schools will be closed Friday, and all after-school activities are canceled Thursday through Saturday.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES:
Wake Forest University:
Wake Forest University will remain open for regular hours and operations through Thursday. Starting Friday, September 13, the university will cancel classes and close offices Friday through Sunday, September 16. Wake Forest University said they plan to make more information available for students by Thursday at 12 PM.
UNC Greensboro (UNCG):
UNCG is suspending classes starting at noon Wednesday. Classes should resume on Monday.
Elon University:
Elon University is suspending normal operations beginning at 8 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 13. All classes on the main campus are canceled Thursday and Friday, offices will be closed and student activities and athletic events will be suspended until further notice. Essential university employees should report to campus as instructed by their supervisors on Thursday. Elon’s Law School also cancel classes Thursday and Friday until further notice.
North Carolina A&T:
A&T is canceling all classes and most campus activities including athletic events, starting at noon Wednesday. At 5 p.m., the university will be on suspended operations, with only mandatory employees required to report to work for the remainder of the work week (Condition 2). Normal operations are expected to resume at 5 p.m. on Sunday. The N.C. A&T Fall Career Fair on Wednesday will go forward as scheduled.
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU):
WSSU is canceling all classes and student activities for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week. Regular classes expected to resume Monday morning. Residence halls will remain open unless safety becomes an issue.
University of North Carolina School of the Arts:
UNCSA will cancel all classes, rehearsals and other activities starting 8 a.m. Thursday through noon Sunday, this includes the 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 14 concert by Alexander Lapins. The University will operate under Condition 2 (suspended operations).
Guilford College:
Guilford College is canceling classes on Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14. However, the College will remain open and all services will continue under normal operating schedules. All College staff are expected to report as scheduled. The Bryan Series event scheduled for Thursday, September 13 has been postponed - it will be rescheduled for Monday, October 1.
High Point University:
HPU is canceling classes on both Thursday and Friday. More information is on their website. HPU is securing an additional 18,000 gallons of water and stocking shelves with emergency food inventory for students who choose to stay on campus. HPU says all campus services will remain operational.
South University High Point:
South University High Point will close at noon (12:00 pm) on Thursday, September 13. The campus intends to resume normal operations on Monday, September 17. Updates will be provided through the University’s Emergency Notification System and local media.
GTCC:
Guilford Technical Community College announced it will close Friday, Sept. 14 - Sunday, Sept. 16. The closure will impact all GTCC campuses and both day and night classes. The college will resume normal operations on Monday, Sept. 17.
Bennett College:
Classes were suspended at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and are set to resume Monday at 8 a. m. Staff at the college said the residence halls and dining hall will remain open through the course of the weekend.
