GREENSBORO, N.C. — Super Bowl Sunday is second only to Thanksgiving when it comes to the amount of food consumed. Super Bowl menus can be anything and everything, but there are three staples; pizza, chips with dip, and of course, wings.
But wings didn't become a staple until the late 90s after the Buffalo Bills made a run for the Super Bowl year after year after year. Because the Buffalo Bills played in four consecutive Super Bowls in 91, 92, 93, and 94, there was a lot of focus on what made Buffalo so special.
The Buffalo chicken wing got a lot of play as the hometown delicacy. (There are plenty of stories of how the wing became the thing and which local restaurant introduced it to folks!)
Not only did the wing get a lot of play for those four years, but then, as the story goes, Domino Pizza and then Pizza Hut added wings to their national menu for delivery and that brought it to the masses.
