Burlington firefighters respond to house fire on Wilkins Street

Crews said no firefighters or occupants were injured.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A house fire happened in Burlington yesterday afternoon, according to the Burlington Fire Department.

The Burlington Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2269 Wilkins Street at 4:16 p.m. on Friday.

There was smoke coming from the house and fire showing in the bedroom window when crews arrived at the scene.

All family members evacuated the house, according to the fire department.

Firefighters entered into the house to extinguish the fire and searched for the family’s dog. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire in a bedroom and found the dog in another part of the house. The dog was not harmed and was taken outside to the family.

The Burlington Fire Department said the cause of the fire was from “improperly discarded smoking materials." They are reminding the public that this is a leading cause of fires in the United States.

Crews said the house sustained significant damage from the fire.

The Burlington Fire Department was assisted by the Burlington Police Department, Alamance County EMS, and the American Red Cross. Crews said no firefighters or occupants were injured.
