THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Thomasville police have arrested and charged a man connected to a double homicide that happened Tuesday at the Budget Inn.
Officers were called to the scene just before 5 p.m. after a body was found in one of the rooms. Officers went inside a room and found two men dead, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of them was identified as 40-year-old Javon McCall. As of Wednesday, we do not know the name of the other suspect. Police say they are waiting to release the name until the family is notified.
Detectives processed the scene for evidence and searched the area for witnesses. They identified a suspect early in the investigation.
Christopher Rhodes, 40, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Detectives found Rhodes in High Point shortly before 5 a.m. and, with the help of High Point police, took him into custody without incident.
During his first appearance Wednesday, at the Davidson County courthouse the judge appointed the Capital Defender's Office is his case. This means Rhodes could face the death penalty.
He is currently behind bars without bond. His next court date is April 10.
This investigation is ongoing.
This comes on the heels of another deadly shooting in Thomasville over the weekend. The Mayor and City Manager released the following statement in regards to both:
Recently, two tragic events unfolded within the City of Thomasville that resulted in the death of three individuals and the injury of three others.
Fortunately, quick and efficient police work by the Thomasville Police Department Investigative Division has led to an arrest in the double homicide and significant leads in the other case. This was accomplished by TPD's efforts in developing trusting relationships with members of the community who do not want this criminal activity occurring in Thomasville. We are thankful for this relationship and the committed police officers who serve the city.
Every day, our police carry out their mission. They are committed to protecting and serving our community, creating a safe environment through partnerships, and safeguarding the rights of all individuals.
We called and showed up in-person at the hotel. Both people we spoke to who claim to be employees said the Budget Inn had no comment concerning the homicide.
