Homicide Suspect Assaults Detention Officers at Guilford Co Jail

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- An inmate at a Guilford County Jail has been charged with assaulting two female officers.
Milliam is facing charges for assaulting female officers at a Guilford County Jail.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- An inmate at the High Point Jail has been charged with assaulting two female detention officers. Justin Milliam is being held in jail on a $500,000 bond for a first degree murder charge. The Guilford County Sheriff's Department said Milliam assaulted two female officers Tuesday night.ID=18954017

The department said Milliam assaulted detention officer Elizabeth Hutchins when she tried to remove him from his cell because he was fighting with another inmate. Then, when he got off an elevator he assaulted detention officer Bettina Vredenburg.

Officer Vredenburg had to go to High Point Regional Hospital for treatment, but has since been released. During the assault, the department said Milliam injured one of Vredenburg's eye sockets.

He has been charged with felony assault causing injury to a detention employee, misdemeanor assault of a government employee and misdemeanor injury to real property. Those charges added an additional $25,000 to his bond.
