RALEIGH, N.C.--The state Transportation Department says it will close intermittently one lane in each direction on the Holden Beach bridge on N.C. 130 over the Intracoastal Waterway to allow for its biannual inspection.
A statement from NCDOT said the closures are scheduled 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday and will continue through Wednesday.
The Federal Highway Administration requires all bridges to be inspected every two years. Regular inspections help identify whether a bridge needs maintenance and repair, and then schedule the work accordingly.
If inspectors find a safety concern, the bridge will be repaired or closed immediately until repairs can be made. If necessary, state transportation officials will post weight restrictions on a bridge.
