HIGH POINT, N.C. — Major honors for a Triad city.
The city of High Point is named the '2024 All-America City,' and it's only one of a handful across the country.
The National Civic League selected High Point as one of the ten winning communities, which were announced during the closing ceremony. These communities exemplify the power of civic participation and innovation, offering a blueprint for others who want to strengthen democracy.
The title is given to communities finding creative ways to engage community members and build relationships within the city.
High Point city leaders recently took a trip to Denver, where they could present to a jury of nationally recognized leaders.
The theme of this year's awards was strengthening democracy through local action and innovation.
We spoke with the Mayor of High Point about their presentation. He says it focused on topics like hunger within the community and building a stronger local economy.
"During our presentation at the All American City Awards, what we highlighted is the work we have done regarding food security, our small business support, and the rebranding of our city. We felt like these best highlight what it is High Point to face challenges and overcome them collectively as a community," said Cyril Jefferson, City of High Point Mayor.
This is the second time the City of High Point has won this award, the first being in 1962.
"When we learned the news that High Point was an 'All America City,' we were filled with so much optimism and excitement and, quite frankly, for everyone who invested in what we did. Our city knows we are stronger when we are together and I think our demonstration this past weekend showed why we are an 'All America City'," said Mayor Jefferson.
