Asheboro barricade situation: Here's what we know

A man was arrested after a traffic stop turned into a barricade situation in Asheboro.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — The Asheboro Police Department is on the scene of a barricaded subject on West Presnell Street in Asheboro on Tuesday, June 11. 

The incident started around 11:30 a.m. when Asheboro police attempted a traffic stop. Police said the driver drove a short distance before he exited the car and ran into his home.

He then barricaded himself inside.

Later, four elderly residents were removed from the home.

The Asheboro Police SWAT team was able to enter the home and took the suspect without incident.

Michael Dale Wilcox, 53, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Order for Arrest for Probation Violation 
  • Resisting a Public Officer 
  • No Operator’s License 
  • Failure to Heed Lights and Siren 
  • Failure to Stop at Red Light 
  • Expired Registration Plate

The suspect was evaluated at the hospital before he was taken to the Randolph County Jail.

Police said his bond is unknown at this time.
