RALEIGH, N.C. — Hanes Magnet School in Winston-Salem won the top prize at the North Carolina Regional Future City Competition in Raleigh Sunday.
The competition was held at the McKimmon Center at N.C. State University. The school got a $1,000 check for winning.
The competition is a statewide program that teaches middle-school students problem-solving techniques through project and problem-based learning. Students can plan a city using SimCity and present their vision and ideas to judges at regional competitions.
This year's competition's theme was "Powering Our Future."
