GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Several schools throughout Guilford County are dealing with possible flu-related illnesses, according to the Guilford County Health Department.
Letters were sent out to Colfax Elementary, Foust Elementary, and McLeansville elementary letting parents know they are investigating flu at those schools.
According to the CDC this is the time of year when flu symptoms really start to ramp up.
From December to February is usually peak time, but the flu can be found all the way up until as late as May.
As always there are several different strains of flu out there this year, but one of the main vaccines is set to prevent an H1N1-like virus this year. You may remember H1N1 is better known as Swine Flu.
In the letter to parents, the Guilford County Department of Health lists symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and a few others.
They also recommending getting your flu vaccine, and using antiviral drugs or prescriptions.
If you or your child start to develop flu-like symptoms, you should keep your child away from the school and other activities, and contact your healthcare provider said the Health Department.
