GREENSBORO, N.C. — Leaders in Guilford County are keeping the future of Greensboro top of mind. Greensboro city officials released a third-quarter progress report as part of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
Key points of the progress report include completion plans for the Randleman Road Phase 2 project and improvements for south Greensboro.
The Randleman Road Phase 2 project is scheduled to be completed later this fall. The road covers 2.3 miles and begins with an interchange at I-40 and continues southward to I-85. The project builds on transportation recommendations from Phase 1, which covered the northern half of Randleman Road.
As the Randleman Road plan near completion, there is a new plan to improve the look of the area.
"Randleman Road is more than just a collection of strip shopping centers there is history and community. One of the recommendations of Randleman Road we found was that people are looking at public image and so we are looking at public art different things possibly some sort of physical art that things that change and celebrate the history of that community," said Sue Schwartz, the city of Greensboro's planning director.
Schwartz adds another piece to that puzzle is more affordable housing options in the city.
"Housing affordability it's universal almost at this point across the country and different aspects of it. So, it's not just the lowest of incomes or even can we used to consider low income that price points across the board are very difficult to find in Greensboro and those new jobs coming will only exacerbate that situation," Schwartz added.
GuilfordWorks and Guilford Technical Community College are working together to bring more job training for parents and families of GCS students.
