GREENSBORO, N.C. — The City of Greensboro announced Monday that it has entered into a partnership with Urban Ministries to enhance shelters for those experiencing homelessness ahead of the winter season.

According to a press release, the Greensboro City Council unanimously approved a resolution to authorize City Manager Nathaniel "Trey" Davis to enter into a contract with Greensboro Urban Ministries "in an amount not to exceed $425,000."

The city said it developed a program to provide overnight shelter to those experiencing homelessness this winter with the help of GUM, community leaders and representatives of the local faith community.

Urban Ministries will add 60 beds to its Weaver House shelter program and 83 beds to the city's Doorway Project location at Pomona Park.

“The City is expanding its community partnerships in an effort to enhance services to the unhoused in advance of the winter season,” Davi said in a statement. “We are thankful for these partnerships, as they allow us to provide for our most vulnerable population in their time of need.”

According to the city, the program will run from December 2024 to March 2025.
