NC Treasurer finds $4,100 in unclaimed cash for Guilford County Schools.

You might have unclaimed cash. Here's how to search for it and get it for free!

GREENSBORO, N.C. — What a great way to end the week, with a check for $4,100!  The North Carolina Treasurer was in Greensboro Friday, May 3, 2024, to give the check to Guilford County Schools.  The money was in the unclaimed cash fund, a mix of healthcare and life insurance payouts that never made it to the administrative offices.

What is unclaimed cash and property? These are funds from closed bank accounts, wages that were owed, utility deposits, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, bonds, or even the contents of safe deposit boxes that have been abandoned for a period of time.

It's a simple search on NCcash.com.  This is the official site of the state treasurer's office. This is a free service. You never have to pay to search for or get money owed to you. There's a lot of money out there, about $1.3 Billion in North Carolina alone.

Back in March, the state treasurer told WFMY News 2  he was going on a tour of checks.

"We are in the process of doing unclaimed property in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to state agencies. I'm the state treasurer, these are state agencies," said Dale Folwell, NC State Treasurer.

Often, we have people who will email us and say they have lived at the same house for 30 years, there is no way a bank or insurance company can't find them.

"When your viewer says I've lived here all my life, what is the problem, well, sometimes the check does not get delivered and does not get cashed," said Folwerll.

Why not check your name right now? NCcash.com. Be aware, you will need to put in your Social Security number to prove who you are and that the money is going to the right person.
