City transit will soon connect Downtown Greensboro, Revolution Mill, and State Street

Greensboro Transit Agency is set to launch a new trolley route. A new route that will connect downtown to areas like Revolution Mill.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro leaders want to connect different parts of the city.

Greensboro Transit Agency's latest effort consists of tying together Downtown Greensboro to Revolution Mill and State Street.

WFMY News 2's Nixon Norman heard from businesses that want to cash in.

While yes, there's a lot to do downtown, people can't forget other parts of the city such as Revolution Mill and State Street. Business owners in both areas share the same excitement over the trolley stopping nearby.

Grapes and Grains Tavern in Revolution Mill just opened a little more than a week ago. Today is the 10th day they've been in businesses this year. Co-owners Amy Pagano and Rusty Collins said they've seen success already but they are stoked to see the trolley drop off folks right at their front door.

"Instead of Ubering, you can get on the trolley, you can bar hop downtown, you can go to State Street, you can come to Revolution Mill, you can hit in one night — most of Greensboro on the trolley!" Collins said.

The same goes for folks on State Street, where State Street Wine Company sits. Tyler Miller, co-owner of the store, said this new route will definitely bring more foot traffic to the area.

Director of GTA, Reginald Mason said the State Street stop will also connect to  Davie Street and Northwood Street. He said that these new routes are set to launch July 4th, just in time for the holiday.

"From the transit perspective, it's important to have connectivity all over the city. Park at the parking deck, go hop on a trolley, you can enjoy Elm Street, you can enjoy State Street, you can also enjoy Revolution Mill — the trolley will get you there," Mason said.

Once these new routes are launched, there will be another push to look into adding a trolley route that connects to the Hoppers Stadium.
