GREENSBORO, N.C. — Is it good news or bad news when it comes to Greensboro property taxes? Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan joined WFMY News 2 in studio this week and said, so far, it's looking really good.
"Next Tuesday we will vote on the budget the way it looks right now there will be no tax increase. We've been able to keep all the services and add some. I think it's a strong budget," said Mayor Nancy Vaughan, City of Greensboro.
2 Wants To Know looked at the property tax history for the last 10 years. Right now the rate is .6725. (Or 67.25 for every $100 of valuation). That is the highest it's been in the last 10 years. For the majority of the last decade, Greensboro homeowners have been paying a rate of .6325.
The increase in 2023 meant a homeowner paid about $100 more on a house worth $250,000.
So, will it stay flat from last year? We find out on Tuesday. The proposed budget for this year is $801.8 million. Water, sewer, and stormwater rates are recommended to increase by an average of 9.1%. Customers will pay $4.59 more on average each month.
