Crews unable to find anyone in water after hours of searching Lake Higgins

Police and several other agencies began searching the water early Tuesday morning.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Crews were unable to find anyone in the water by late Tuesday afternoon, Greensboro police said. It's unclear if or when a search could continue.

Greensboro police said crews are searching for a person who may have jumped into Lake Higgins Tuesday morning.

The search began around 8 a.m. at a bridge over Highway 220 near Strawberry Road. GPD said it started as a call about suspicious activity in the area. Then police said the search was for a "possible suicidal subject who is believed to have entered the water."

Divers are in a pontoon boat searching the water. Several crews are at the scene, including Greensboro Police, Guilford County EMS, Greensboro Fire and Rescue, Guilford County EMS, and High Point Fire Department.

Police have the area taped off, and Highway 220 is down to one lane going toward Summerfield.

WFMY News 2 has crews at the scene and will bring you the latest on the search.
