Greensboro homeowner gets $4,885 after internet company takes responsibility for sewer backup

2 Wants To Know's Call For Action volunteers helped solve this consumer issue.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — When your kitchen sink and your bathroom commode start bubbling up with backed-up water, it's not good. A Greensboro homeowner experienced this nightmare and thought something was wrong with her plumbing.

CALL FOR ACTION COMPLAINT FORM

"I started having plumbing issues and the sink and the commode were overflowing and I called a plumber to come to fix it," said Qumara Lee.

The plumber thought it was a routine fix, but when Lee had problems after he left, he put a scope down into the sewer pipe. What he saw, clearly identified the problem. Wires had found their way inside the pipe.

"The wires were causing everything to back up. He left me the video and it showed the company name on the wires," said Lee.

She called the internet company who put down the wires, and they acknowledged the wires were theirs, but said they don't use them anymore and weren't responsible. She filed a claim and went back and forth with the company for a few months. And then, she got in touch with our 2WTK Call For Action volunteers. This group is trained to help people solve their consumer issues, like getting the company to take responsibility for the cost of repairing the sewer pipe.

"Without you guys, I would have been going back and forth. You all were able to help me more than I realized. It was not just the pipe repair, but the flooring, cabinets, and everything that was impacted, it was good," said Lee.

Do you have a consumer issue you need help with? Our Call For Action volunteers come in every Tuesday to work cases from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first step is filling out a complaint form, it's right at the bottom of the 2 Wants to Know section.
