Greensboro couple starts a wedding venue business in Climax

Maiya and Travis High bought and fully renovated a wedding venue in Climax. Their new business aims to give other couples the wedding of their dreams.

GREENSBORO, Ga. — A young Greensboro couple is pouring back into the community where they met. Maiya and Travis High's love story began at North Carolina A&T.

Their new business aims to give other couples the wedding of their dreams.

WFMY News 2 spoke with them about why they felt called to stay in Guilford County.

From college sweethearts to entrepreneurs, recently married couple Maiya and Travis High are passionate about planning weddings.

"We were planning our own wedding, we saw all that goes into planning a wedding. For me, it was kind of fun and also it's an investment you make as a couple. So, we were thinking about that and being entrepreneurs," said Maiya High.

The couple bought and fully renovated the Evergreen Estate. A venue that sits off Ledbetter Road in Climax.

"Our style is modern, and elegant so we wanted to be a true blend of all that. We are in the middle of beautiful nature. We have a beautiful pond outside that sets off a serene backdrop for weddings," said High.

Along with weddings, they also plan to use the site for workshops, art galleries, small businesses and corporate events, especially considering the growing business nearby. The new Toyota battery manufacturing plant is only about three miles away.

"It be for corporate events, picnics, if people visit the plant they can come out here at any point," said Travis High.

With any new business, challenges did arise.

"One of the things we've already faced already is just getting our name out there, a lot of weddings and special events venues in North Carolina," said Maiya High.

They hope their custom designs and passion for serving others will attract clients.

"We really are putting our heart into making this a place where people can make good memories and memories that last," said Maiya High.

The couple is already booking people for the venue in hopes to be up and running by September.
