GREENSBORO, NC -- Divers from all over the country are in town for the USA Diving Synchronized National Championships.
The competition is going on at the Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC) from April 9th - April 12th.
The USA Diving Synchronized National Championships are the latest of several Triad events that were hosted at the GAC since it opened in 2011.
According to Susan Braman, Aquatic Center's manager, the calendar has been filled with events, which have brought in big business for the community it serves.
Braman said, the estimated economic impact from the center is $80 million. She got the economic numbers from Greensboro Visitor and Convention Center.
Breaking Down The Aquatic Center's Local Impact:
- Overall, the estimated number of hotel rooms booked for GAC related events to date is over 72,000 (Source: Greensboro Convention & Visitors Bureau)
- For the YMCA National Short Course Championships last week (March 30 - Apr. 3) - more than 1,353 swimmers, 336 coaches, 193 teams from 27 states and generating an estimated economic impact of nearly $8.4 million.
- For 2015 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships (March 19 - 21) - Field included 322 student-athletes from 63 colleges from across the country.

- 2016 U.S. Masters Swimming Short-Course National Championships
- 2016 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming Championships
- 2018 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming Championships
This after voters in Greensboro approved a 2008 bond referendum, that paved the way for the city to build the $19 million state-of-the-art aquatic center.
