Through the duration of the partial government shutdown, Grandfather Mountain will offer complimentary admission to affected federal employees and their guests. The park is open year-round, with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas, weather permitting.

As the Government shutdown closes in on its fourth week, Grandfather Mountain is offering some relief to federal employees.

For the rest of the shutdown, federal employees and up to six guests (in the same vehicle) can get free admission to Grandfather Mountain.

“Being next-door neighbors with the Blue Ridge Parkway, we sympathize with the furloughed employees,” said Jesse Pope, executive director and president of the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation. “We wish to extend complimentary admission to the park through the duration of the shutdown to all affected federal employees, as a small token of our appreciation.”

Those redeeming the offer must show proof of federal employment, like an ID or paystub.

The park is open daily, weather permitting. During the winter, guests show call the entrance gate at (828) 733-4337 to confirm the day's conditions.
