NC governor honors life of fallen Greensboro officer

Governor Roy Cooper traveled to Greensboro to offer his condolences to the family of Sgt. Dale Nix.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Governor Roy Cooper arrived in Greensboro to pay his respects to a fallen officer Thursday.

Sgt. Nix was off-duty on Dec. 30 when he saw people attempting to steal beer, tried to stop it, and was shot and killed at a Sheetz in Colfax.

Many gathered at Westover Church to honor his memory.

Gov. Cooper also offered his condolences to the family of Sgt. Nix.

"I told the family the people of North Carolina care about them, care about this community, and I wanted to be here to represent the people of this state to tell them thank you for his life," Gov. Cooper expressed.

"I'm grateful for the life of Sgt. Nix and for all he's done for so many people."

"We need to work hard to fight violence in our communities," Gov. Cooper said.
