The Good Morning Show: What's going on in your community?

From job fairs to small business help, every event and resource mentioned on the Good Morning Show at 6am on April 17.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA —

‘Lights On Greensboro’ Campaign

The City of Greensboro is partnering with Duke Energy for a ‘Lights On Greensboro’ campaign. Residents are encouraged to participate by reporting street light outages in Greensboro to Duke Energy here or by calling 336-373-CITY (2489).

Greensboro residents that report an outage from April 17-28 will automatically be entered into a raffle to win prizes from the Greensboro Science Center and the City of Greensboro.

Streetlights are vital to public safety as they allow pedestrians and motorists to see each other better and effectively reduce potential criminal activity.

‘Forward Together’ Networking Event

On the heels of the passage of Guilford County’s first Minority/Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) Program policy and procedure manual, the county’s MWBE program is partnering with East Greensboro NOW to host ‘Forward Together’ an outreach and networking event for local businesses.

“Our ‘Forward Together’ event is all about making connections to people, to business, to opportunity,” said Guilford County MWBE Program Director Shaunne Thomas. “We are excited to partner with East Greensboro NOW to bring the community together and to share more about our program, the benefits of becoming an MWBE, and, importantly, the benefits of hiring MWBE firms.”

Guilford County’s MWBE Program is designed to advocate for MWBE businesses and provide equal access to opportunities to participate in all aspects of the County’s contracting and procurement programs, including Professional Services, Goods and Other Services, and Construction. The MWBE program is dedicated to the success of minority- and women-owned businesses.

The ‘Forward Together’ outreach event is free to attend and provides an opportunity for minority- and women-owned businesses to learn more about the technical and financial assistance offered to business owners. It’s also an opportunity for local businesses to meet and network with MWBE-certified companies and learn about the MWBE program's services.

The community information session will be held on Monday, April 17 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Barber Park Event Center in Greensboro. Business owners can register online.
