'A come to Jesus meeting' | Thousands anticipate NC A&T Homecoming Gospel Concert

The concert will showcase songs and performances by the university gospel choir, Erica Campbell, Travis Greene, and more.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Celebrations for the Greatest Homecoming on Earth continue in Greensboro. The North Carolina A&T Homecoming Gospel Concert will be on Sunday, November 5 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The concert will showcase a selection of songs that will touch the hearts and souls of those who attend.

Jamie Crockett with university relations and Lia West, a member of the North Carolina A&T Fellowship Gospel Choir, joined WFMY in studio to talk about what guests can expect at the concert.

“I know that we can expect a mighty shift from God,” West said. “We can expect soul music from our ancestors, soul music from now. Just fun, a lot of fun energy, and just for God’s move in a mighty way.”

The concert will feature Erica Campbell, Travis Greene, and Pastor Mike Jr. There will also be a special performance by the university’s gospel choir.

“We’re really excited and the theme of it is ‘A Come to Jesus Meeting’,” Crockett said.

The North Carolina A&T Fellowship Gospel Choir was formed in 1969.

“From then to now just showing the love of God on campus to ministering to the students to ministering to even the people outside of the school just to show that anything can happen on campus, but we still have a firm foundation in the love of God to keep us grounded,” West said.

Crockett said the gospel choir is a ministry for the students.

“It’s not just having your gifts and talents, you’re bringing ministry to the people,” Crockett said. “The concert is going to be a great time.”

West said as a student it feels great to have a space to embrace her faith and talents on campus.

“It’s so surreal honestly because I was born and raised in the church, but now coming to college and finding a relationship with God myself, the gospel choir has given me an opportunity to really tap into my relationship with God and really have a foundation of meeting people who are also like-minded,” West said. “It’s fun. It’s a family. We laugh and we cry all the time. We have bible study, we have praise and worship nights, and other opportunities for the students to [fellowship] with us.”

The homecoming gospel concert starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
