GREENSBORO, N.C. — Paying off credit card debt can be a daunting task. So, how do you stay motivated? That’s the theme of this week’s Monday Motivation. Life and Wellness Coach Lynch Hunt with AWOL Fitness has the answer.
“I know this all too well,” Hunt said. “Paying off credit card debt can feel like a never-ending task especially when progress seems low. Remember every small step you take can potentially lead to significant results.”
For those struggling to pay off debt, Hunt recommends the “Snowball Effect.” It’s a technique he learned from Dave Ramsey’s book The Total Money Makeover.
“You start by paying off your smallest debt first while maintaining the minimum payment on all your other debts,” Hunt said. “As you eliminate the first small debt, you gain a sense of accomplishment. It’s like doing small reps at the gym. They build your confidence and then the confidence becomes empowerment.”
Hunt said you then take the money you were putting towards your first debt and add it toward the minimum payment of your next smallest debt. This is what creates the “Snowball Effect.”
“As you pay off more debt, you'll see more tangible progress,” Hunt said. “The key is to stick to your budget and stay disciplined. Always remember, if the smallest step in the right direction leads to progress, then you’re on the right track. Keep going, stay committed, and before you know it, you’ll be on your way to becoming debt-free.”
