WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - It's National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week.

A local homeless shelter wants to shed light on the issues of hunger and homelessness in Forsyth County.

Bethesda Center for the Homeless provides shelter and housing stabilization services to help improve the lives of Winston-Salem's homeless men and women.

On any given night in Forsyth County, more than 450 men and women do not have a place to call home.

Bethesda Center is hosting events for the public to help raise awareness about homelessness and hunger.

Some of the events include a community kick-off, feeding the homeless, volunteer opportunities, and a Sleep Out Challenge.

The Annual Sleep Out Challenge is one of the most popular community events.

During the challenge, participants work through simulations and sleep outside at Bailey Park in Innovation Quarter.

It's a chance for participant to understand the issues of homelessness firsthand.

If you can't attend any of the events, you still have the option of acting as a volunteer or donating to the Bethesda Center to help those in need before the Thanksgiving holiday.
