This week is National EMS Week, a week designated to bring together local EMS practitioners and the communities they serve.

The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians says President Gerald Ford established National EMS week in 1974. Back then, EMS was a new profession, and EMS practitioners had just started getting recognized as a critical component of emergency medicine.

Tuesday, the Good Morning Show received a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of Guilford County EMS, where there are approximately 10 job openings for those willing to train and be on the front lines of saving lines. (See employment FAQs here). Applicants must already be EMT-certified.

Check out the virtual EMS Museum, showcasing the evolution of EMS over the centuries.
