GREENSBORO, NC -- The Junior League of Greensboro has packed up its inventory and quickly moved its consignment store to a new, strategically-placed location a few miles away.
The Bargain Box will reopen Thursday, Sept.1 at 1410 Mill Street and have extended normal hours -- Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The new store will have a "boutique feel" and be equipped with dressing rooms. It will also feature merchandise from other local thrift stores, like McKay's Used Books and Red Collection.
Before now, the Bargain Box was on Elm Street in downtown Greensboro, where parking was limited. Junior League president Carley Swaim said research shows the new location in Greensboro's "midtown" is more easily-accessible and more convenient for the shopping clientele and donors.
The Junior League describes the Bargain Box as a "high-quality" thrift store. The concept started in 1935 and has been the Junior League's only ongoing fundraiser. Proceeds help the Junior League fund its main causes, like helping Title I schools make upgrades.
Junior League members are the Bargain Box's primary staff, but throughout the year there are opportunities for groups to volunteer.
