GREENSBORO, NC -- Experience living history this Independence Day, as reenactors at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park transport guests back in time to what happened after the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
The park, situated in Greensboro, was the site of a key battle in the Revolutionary War. In the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, Major Nathanael Greene defended ground at Guilford Courthouse with his army of nearly 4,500 American militia and Continentals. Less than half that size, the British army -- led by Lord Charles Cornwallis -- won the battle, seven months before Cornwallis would surrender.
To commemorate the battle and the Declaration of Independence that fired up the Revolutionary War, park rangers will host a living history celebration event Monday:
