3 tricks to help students stay organized

Expert advice to stay on top of homework and class assignments...

GREENSBORO, N.C. — As kids get back to the swing of things in school, it's normal for high school students to get about an hour of homework every night -with different assignments in each class. Here are three things to know about how helping them keep on top of all that work from professional organizers.

First, get kids excited about having an organized workspace. Organizing by Chelsea in Greensboro says that starts by having students help pick out their own supplies.

“The fun part of organizing for kids is to buy cute supplies. Buy your favorite theme of supplies. You know, it may be Spider-man or maybe the Minions. Buying those type of supplies would keep you encouraged,” said Chelsea Ingram with Organizing by Chelsea.

Second, instead of one big notebook get separate color-coded binders for each class.

“It will differentiate for one each class. Also, it will allow you to accumulate more paperwork. So you can kind of figure this binders for this class. And of course the teacher is gonna give you tons of paperwork, tons of tons of worksheets and study sheets. So you ant to keep all of your paperwork in that one binder and it accumulates over time. It won't get too cluttered for you in that,” Ingram said.

Third, once you get a good organized homework space set up, take a picture of it and it print that out. Tape it somewhere in the space, so kids can remember where everything is supposed to go to keep it organized.
