Honoring those lost in service and grieve those you've lost

Blanca Cobb explains how you can remember not only military members who have died but others you've lost in your life.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Memorial Day. It is a time for barbecues, backyard games, and the unofficial start of summer. But beneath the festive spirit lies a deeper meaning: a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Memorial Day is a day to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country. We enjoy our freedom because of their sacrifice. We should always be grateful for this and remember those who served in our armed forces.

Remembering fallen soldiers remains the core of Memorial Day. And as a day of reflection, it’s natural to think about others you’ve lost who may not have served. Remembering those who helped us in our lives can be a part of the reflection, allowing us to appreciate their impact on our lives.

If you’re wondering how to do both, here’s a suggestion. To maintain the integrity of Memorial Day, it’s important to remember the fallen soldiers and their sacrifice for our freedom. And you can also cherish the memories of those not in the military who you’ve loved and lost.
