Greensboro, N.C. -- Your children are priceless. You will protect them at all costs and for many parents who work during the summer, that means hiring a babysitter who knows CPR and First Aid.
Babysitters, older brothers and sisters can learn these life-saving tools June 16-18, 2014 at the main American Red Cross office on Yanceyville Street in Greensboro.
Beth Ann Gunsallus, a certified instructor with the Red Cross and her son Michael Gunsallus shared a touching story about the importance of learning CPR on the Good Morning Show.
Michael's mother "forced" him to take the class, but it came in handy. A year later, his training helped save his sister's life.
"My sister passed out in the middle of the school and she just started seizing half of her body," said Michael. "I had to render first aid and I used the skills that I learned to bring her to consciousness until the EMTs arrived."
Gunsallus says that's why 70% of parents want a sitter with child care training. And 67% are looking for those babysitters to have CPR training.
Be sure to watch the mother and son team's demonstration of what participants will learn in the class in the video included in this story.
The Babysitting Boot Camp is for girls and boys who are 11 to 15-years-old. The 3 day class is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 16, 17 and 18.
Participants will learn babysitter's training, pediatric first aid, CPR, AED, cat and dog first aid and disaster preparedness training as well.
It all takes place at the Greensboro Chapter's headquarters located at 1501 Yanceyville Street in Greensboro.
You can sign up for one of the $155.00 classes by going to www.redcross.org or by clicking here.
