WHITSETT, N.C. — Six firefighters are in the hospital after a structural collapse on 557 Brycewood Drive in Whitsett at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, according to the Burlington Fire Department.
Daniel Shoffner, a Battalion Chief with the Burlington Fire Department told WFMY News 2 that a group of people were working on the roof of a part of a house that was under construction. One person working on the roof had a medical emergency.
First responders from the Burlington Fire Department, Whitsett Fire Department and Guilford County Emergency Services, went to the roof to help.
According to the Burlington Fire Department, firefighters from the three departments were assisting the patient and trying to lower him onto the ground when the building collapsed.
Several firefighters and the patient fell to the ground among building debris, according to Burlington Fire.
Gibsonville Fire was then dispatched to the area, along with other resources from Guilford County EMS, according to Burlington Fire.
Six firefighters were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The original patient's condition was not specified.
The cause of the collapse is unclear, according to Shoffner.
