Gainesville woman dies in mountain landslide while sheltering during Hurricane Helene

An obituary said she was sheltering in place from tornadoes and flooding at her mother's house when it was destroyed.

BOONE, N.C. — Both Boone and Gainesville are currently mourning the loss of a local family farm owner. 

According to an obituary posted to Watauga Online from the Hampton Funeral and Cremation Service, 36-year-old Brittany Robinson died in a mountain landslide on Sept. 27 during Hurricane Helene. 

She'd been sheltering in place at her mother's home in Boone when it was destroyed in the storm.

Robinson's farm, called the Four Winds Farm, was known for its sustainable production of proteins and vegetables.

She's described as a multi-talented young woman with many talents and interests. 

A memorial service will be held in honor of her life at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m..
