GREENSBORO, N.C. — Schools across the Triad are announcing where students can find free summer meals.
Beginning June 17, children 18 and under can get free breakfasts and lunches.
The school locations that will provide meals are:
Hunter Elementary, Brightwood Elementary, Oak Hill Elementary, Summerfield Elementary, Sedgefield Elementary, Shadybrook Elementary, Irving Park Elementary, Hairston Middle, High Point Central High, Eastern High, Ragsdale High, Dudley High and Smith High.
There are also different community locations that will host summer meal distributions. You can find the closest meal site to you with the GCS interactive summer meal map.
Meals will be available Monday through Thursday. Breakfasts will be available from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., while lunches will be from 11 a.m. to noon. According to GCS, meals will not be distributed June 19 or the week of July 1.
Schools will begin offering free breakfasts and lunches for those 18 and under from Monday, June 17-Wednesday, July 31. Different locations will be open either four or five days a week.
Both meals will be served Monday through Friday at these locations:
Ashley Elementary, Cook Elementary, Forest Park Elementary, Kimberley Park Elementary, Old Town Elementary, Diggs-Latham Elementary, Griffith Elementary, Kernersville Middle, Mineral Springs Middle, Old Richmond Elementary, Morgan Elementary, Smith Farm Elementary, and Ward Elementary.
Both meals will be served Monday through Thursday at these locations:
Brunson Elementary, Carver High, Mount Tabor High, Moore Elementary, Kennedy (Carter), Paisley Middle (Lowrance), Special Children’s School, Petree Elementary, and WSPA.
UPDATE: ABSS says it is pausing registration for summer meals for the first week (June 17-21) due to high demand. When you click on the online sign-up sheet, you will get this message: Due to high demand, we are temporarily pausing registration for the weekly meal pick-ups for the first week. We are working hard to have enough food for upcoming weeks. Please continue to check our website for updates. Daily meal sites will not be affected - you can still visit these locations for meals, though you must eat on-site.
Locations across Alamance County will also begin offering free breakfast, lunch and snacks to those ages 4-18 starting Monday, June 17 through Friday, August 9.
Daily sites offering breakfast and lunch are:
Boys and Girls Learning Center, Falcon Crest Residential, Kidz n Progress and Kool Kidz Place.
Miracle Temple Church will offer lunch and snacks. To help the sites prepare meals, they ask for you to call 24 hours in advance if you plan on visiting.
The Alamance-Burlington School Systems will also offer weekly meal pickups.
Weekly site pick-up locations include:
Sylvan Elementary, Western Alamance High, Pleasant Grove Elementary and Eastern Alamance High.
To participate in the weekly pick-up program, families must fill out the sign-up form ahead of time.
