GREENSBORO, N.C. — The countdown is on to the most wonderful time of the year, football season. From high school games to college and the start of the regular NFL season, which means we'll all be looking for live streaming to watch for free.
"You search online for a link where the game you want to watch might be streaming and sure enough a fan has posted a link on social media where you can watch it for free. Come game time you click the link, the next screen asks you to sign up for the streaming service, not a big deal, but if they ask you for a credit card, that's a red flag," said Lechelle Yates, Better Business Bureau.
The free streaming sites usually make you sit through ads, that's how they make their money. If you're asked to pay, beware.
If you have a kid who is playing, especially in high school, and the school puts the game on its website or Facebook page, don't make your family Google the link. Chances are, they'll fall for a scam.
"It's the extended family members that are gonna be out there maybe, you know, looking for the links. protect people like me," said Yates.
No matter what team you pull for, the game plan should include protecting your money, don't dismiss those red flags.
