DURHAM, NC (WNCN) - Freda Black, a former Durham County prosecutor, has passed away, her family confirmed to CBS 17.
Black was a prosecutor in the Michael Peterson murder trial which was the focus of the Netflix series "The Staircase."
Family confirms she died at her home off S. Roxboro Street where she lived by herself. Her body was found over the weekend.
Durham police said her death does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
Her body has been sent to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
