WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough gave an update about a Carver High School student who is facing charges in connection with the gun and live ammunition found yesterday at the school.

During the conference, Sheriff Kimbrough said making sure each school has metal detectors up everyday is extremely important. He compared having metal detectors in airports and government buildings to having them in schools, which he said should be no different.

Rotating metal detectors are in current use at some schools across the county, but Kimbrough hopes to see more widespread support from the community.

Kimbrough later shared he still has nightmares of a deadly shooting at Mount Tabor from a few years ago. He hopes the district will do everything in their power to prevent a repeat of those events.

According to a statement from deputies Monday, no one was injured during the incident at Carver High and no threats were made against students or school staff. The student was searched by administrative staff.
