GREENSBORO, N.C. — To celebrate Bennett colleges rich history and their pivotal role in the civil right movement, the college held a special ceremony on Saturday.
The event was held inside the 'Global Learning Center' with former NAACP President Reverend Dr. Williams J. Barber II and his daughter Dr. Sharrelle Barber as the guest speakers.
WFMY News 2's Taheshah Moise was the emcee. The event also featured the Bennett College Choir Ambassador Ensemble.
According to Bennett's Twitter, Barber also donated $5,000 to the college and challenged others to do the same.
Barber even challenged his friend singer-songwriter John Legend to donate!
Just this week, Bennett College received $500,000 in donations from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and Papa John's CEO.

The college has to raise a minimum of $5 million by February 1 to try to remain accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
