GREENSBORO, N.C. — Former Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins told WFMY News 2 he's attempting to get his old job back.
Perkins, who's been out of office since 2013, told WFMY News 2's Chad Silber he intends to run for office in 2025. "I've always thought my time as mayor in Greensboro was a precious time and something I really enjoyed," Perkins said.
Perkins said he thinks he can make a difference in the city's future and his experience would be a plus in the Mayor's office. "How we handle the growth and maintain Greensboro's feel is going to be a challenge."
Perkins was Mayor of the Gate City from 2011 to 2013. He lost his reelection bid to current Mayor Nancy Vaughan, who's held the office ever since.
"When Mayor Vaughan decided she wasn't going to run again," reflected Perkins. "I started thinking about it."
Perkins also touted his time in office. "My signature accomplishment when I was mayor was Tanger Center – the idea was hatched and the land was purchased during my time."
After his time in office, he served as President of Triad Real Estate & Builders Coalition and Chair of the Economic Development Committee of the NC Association of Realtors.
Perkins said he'll formally run for office in January.
City councilwoman Marikay Abuzuaiter has also said she's considering a run for Mayor. She shared her intentions during a broadcast at the WFMY News 2 studios.
Mayor Vaughan revealed back in May that she would not seek reelection, opening the doors for new leadership.
