Security video shows person running at the time of attempted Brinks truck robbery

Deputies said the suspect was shot dead. Security video shows an unidentified person running to and from the area as the attempted robbery and shooting happened.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A suspect is dead after trying to break into a Brinks truck in a Food Lion parking lot on Burlington Road on Tuesday morning, according to the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.

Devonte Eugene Scott, 26, of Abermarle, died from a gunshot wound. Police said it was an isolated incident, and there is no immediate threat to the community.

Our crews spoke to witnesses who said they saw the entire incident. One woman said she heard gunshots and saw a man collapse. She said she was scared and shaken up by what happened.

"I came up here to go to the ATM, and was parked here to meet a friend, and I heard something that sounded like banging on metal, and I turn around, and looked, and didn't see anything. And then I heard a couple gunshots, and I turned around then, and a man in a dark gray sedan backed out and pulled off and I saw his profile. He had a hood on, but I just saw his profile, and the man was laying on the ground and I was scared to go over there because I didn't know if the shooter was alone," one witness said.

Witnesses said they heard at least five gunshots this morning in the parking lot.

"People on the roof up there crouched for cover, you had people that were running, and ducking for cover," explained Finch Brown.

Guilford Co. Sheriff's Office said this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.

This is an ongoing investigation, we aren't sure of the identity of the person who died or if any charges are pending.
