Officials say an air conditioning unit triggered the fire alarm at Grimsley High School

Students were evacuated before they received the all clear to return to class.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — UPDATE: Grimsley High School gets the all clear after a fire was reported Wednesday morning. 

Crews responded to Grimsley High School Wednesday morning after reports of a fire, according to Greensboro Fire Chief Dwayne Church. 

Dwayne Church, deputy chief of the Greensboro Fire Department, the school was evacuated as a per caution. However, it was determined there was no fire.

Fire alarms had been going off since 8:30 a.m.. Firefighters arrived at the school a few minutes later and determined an HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) unit malfunctioned. triggering the alarms.

A light haze covered the building. Officials think this was from the belts in the HVAC system. 

Students safely returned to class.
