Fire At Covanta Plant in Asheboro Keeps First Responders Busy

People across Randolph County are complaining of smoke after an outside industrial rubber shredder caught fire in Asheboro Friday afternoon, according to police. 

ASHEBORO, NC - A fire at a plant in Asheboro kept firefighters busy for hours Friday afternoon..

The fire is at the Covanta Environmental Solutions plant on Carl Drive. It was reported around 12:30, Randolph County 911 confirmed.

A 911 telecommunicator said the Asheboro fire department and several others are on the scene.

Randolph EMS told WFMY News 2 there is so much smoke people across the county can see and smell it, but the fire has been contained.

They also sent out a tweet warning people to avoid the area:

No injuries were reported.
